The Indus symbols used in this dictionary are mostly taken from Mahadevan's Concordance, 1977¹. Each symbol carries a reference number given to it by Mahadevan. Images with a one to three digit reference number can be found in the Sign List of the Indus Script. Images with a four digit number appear in Appendix 1, in the List of Sign Variants.
Within this website's frame of reference, the number given to a symbol by Mahadevan merely serves to identify the symbol in Mahadevan's Concordance for the purpose of proper accreditation. No attempt is made to link the symbol back to Mahadevan's original source text.
Where a symbol from the corpus does not appear in Mahadevan, the image has been created by me. I have not allocated reference numbers to the new symbols because they are not necessary for the operation of this site.
